It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Corey Dean on March 27, 2018. For the last 32 years, Corey has been the heart and soul of DuMoulin Black, first as an associate lawyer, then as a Partner and for the past 15 years, as Managing Partner. Even in his final days while battling cancer, he took tremendous pleasure from the successful conclusion of one last transaction.
We will miss his ready smile, thoughtful and caring leadership, and his true joy in everything related to the success of his clients and the firm. Corey was endlessly generous with his experience and knowledge, helping the lawyers and staff at DuMoulin Black excel in their professional development and endeavours. We were honoured by his presence and will miss him deeply.
Corey was dedicated to the practice of corporate, securities and natural resource law, with particular emphasis on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. Corey’s practice extended around the globe, and his long-term clients knew they could rely upon him to help build their businesses and to answer their calls at all hours of the day and night.
Corey also had extensive ties to the Vancouver legal and business communities and to securities regulators. Corey extended this generosity of spirit to those in the wider community through his extensive involvement with Continuing Legal Education, the Canadian Bar Association and the TSX Venture Exchange and by serving on the TSX Venture Exchange Vancouver Local Advisory Committee.
Corey received many accolades during his long and distinguished career. He was a peer-rated lawyer in the Martindale Hubbell international legal directory, and he was selected repeated for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in Canada® for his work in corporate, M&A, natural resources and securities law. Lexpert also repeatedly named Corey to their Canadian Legal Directory, Canada/US Cross-Border list and their Report on Business/Corporate directory. However, Corey was humble in accepting this recognition and saw it as a tribute to the team at DuMoulin Black.
